Problem #1: They know Miguel. Like, really know him. His quirks, his crew, his preferred petting style, and what treats he likes. They also know my car which is cool until I realize I’m not even the main character in my car. I’m barely out of my Kia and they’re already yelling “Miguel!!” like he’s the face of Milk-bone.
Problem #2: Miguel has more friends than I do. He’s in a clique. He plays with his buddies like he’s in an exclusive dog fraternity. Every time I pick him up, he’s acting like he just got back from a networking event for cool dogs.
Problem #3: They send me videos. Cute, funny, painfully adorable videos of Miguel doing zoomies, playing tag, eating bubbles, or living his best dog life. It’s honestly rude how much fun he’s having without me. But I save them all. I’ve shown coworkers and strangers unprovoked. I am not okay.
Problem #4: He comes home tired. And I’m not talking a little tired, I mean snoring, dreaming, twitching-paws kind of tired. It’s the kind of rest that says, “I’ve had an emotionally fulfilling day without you.” I’m no longer the center of his universe. I’ve been demoted to spare human status. Miguel’s Uber driver who brings him to his real humans, Athena, Lauren and Brian.
And the most dangerous part? He LOVES it. He sprints to the door. He doesn’t look back. I’m just there to drop him off and pay the bill. He’s living his best life and I’m his part-time assistant. His plus one. I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts packing a bag on daycare mornings. If he knew how to drive, I know he’d drive there and pick up his bestie Luca on the way.
So yes, if you want your dog to be treated like canine royalty, make lifelong friends, get hilarious video updates, and come home blissfully exhausted then Central Bark is the place.
Just be prepared to be demoted to “supporting role” in your own dog’s life. I heard him call me “Background Human #8” the last time I picked him up and he was saying bye to his friends.
17/10. Miguel-approved. Human slightly jealous.
Frequently Asked Questions
As part of joining the Central Bark® family, our expert staff conducts a thorough behavior assessment at your local Central Bark store. These assessments help ensure that your dog is placed with a playgroup they’re comfortable with so they can play safely every day they’re with us.
This four-day evaluation, while your dog participates in our Enrichment Day Care, assesses your dog’s:
- Comfort and social skills with people
- Social skills and playstyle with other dogs to help determine the playgroup and play schedule they can benefit from the most
- Comfort in both indoor and outdoor play spaces
- Comfort in rest areas and a crate
- Ability to share resources like water and toys in social settings
- Level of comfort taking treats in social settings
This process gives us a chance to get to know you and your dog while your dog gets acquainted with their new favorite place away from home. Through the entire four days, your dog’s comfort and safety is our top priority.
Once your pup passes all the behavior assessment elements, you are welcome to sign up for any of our daycare services or a sleepover!

After decades of experience, we know that reward-based training is the most humane and effective way to train dogs and address unwanted behaviors. With reward-based training, you can build a loving, trusting bond that enhances your relationship with your dog for a lifetime of happiness.
Positive reward-based techniques help puppies and dogs develop essential life skills and behaviors that will enrich their lives at home and day care. These methods set dogs up to succeed and reward them for performing desired behaviors. Rewards are tailored to the dog’s preferences and include food treats, time to play with a favorite toy, or verbal praise.

Even with such a proactive approach to safety as described above, scuffles between dogs can and do happen from time to time. Although this is a rare occurrence, dogs are animals and don’t always talk about whose tennis ball it is. If a scuffle does occur, staff are trained to intervene immediately by making a loud noise and separating the dogs involved as quickly as possible. For most dogs enrolled in our program, this is enough to stop the situation. If needed, we are also equipped with squirt bottles and a hose. Any dog involved in a scuffle will receive a cursory body check and play break to calm down.
