Daisy G is the October Dog of the Month!
What is cuter than a Golden Retriever puppy? Not much! And that is what we said when Daisy G joined Central Bark’s Puppy 1 class. She was the cutest Golden Retriever puppy ever! Moreover, today she is our October Dog of the Month.
Human mother, Pat, is an avid gardener, has three grandsons, and plenty of other activities, yet she was not too busy to train her new puppy. Pat came to the first Puppy class wearing a leather gardening glove and holding Daisy on a chain leash. The chain was necessary because Daisy chewed all the other leashes, and the glove was required so Pat could walk Daisy without hurting her hand! Yes, Daisy needed training. At the beginning of every class, all students are asked what goals they hoped to achieve in the class. Pat just wanted “to be able to walk Daisy without wearing gloves!” By the fourth week, Pat achieved her goal and was gloveless!
Look at that photo of Daisy. Can’t you just see that twinkle in her eye and read her clever mind thinking, …”So, what can I get away with next?”
Daisy is a Golden Retriever to the extreme. The AKC states that this active and energetic Sporting breed can adapt to many different living situations, but requires daily exercise. (Duh!) His water-repellant double-coat sheds seasonally and needs regular brushing. With his friendly temperament and striking golden color, this breed is both beautiful to look at and a joy to own.
Pat keeps Daisy well groomed, but also has her spruced up at Central Bark. Daisy loves the pool, loves to play, and loves to be loved by her family and the handlers at Central Bark. Daisy can never get too much attention. While she takes plenty of loving, she returns it ten-fold. Daisy loves to carry toys around and when one of them is not available, she will sneak a water bottle from her handler. Daisy also fits the description of dogs in the Sporting Group – naturally active and alert. Sporting dogs make likeable, well-rounded companions.
Other members of the Sporting Group include pointers, retrievers, setters and spaniels. Remarkable for their instincts in water and woods, many of these breeds actively continue to participate in hunting and other field activities. Potential owners of Sporting dogs need to realize that most require regular, invigorating exercise.
Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular dogs in the United States. Daisy should be their poster girl. She is all that and a bag of chips! No question as to why Daisy is our October Dog of the Month. Congrats, Daisy and Pat!
