About Central Bark Henrietta
Phil
Owner / Operator
Hi, I’m Phil, owner of Central Bark Henrietta. Before opening Central Bark, I spent over 14 years working in the technology industry, where I developed a passion for problem-solving, improving processes, and creating better experiences for customers. While my career began in technology, my lifelong love of dogs and desire to make a positive impact in my community ultimately led me to open Central Bark.
One of the things I enjoy most is finding ways to make things better—for our team, our customers, and, most importantly, the dogs in our care. I believe in building strong relationships, empowering great people, documenting and improving our processes, and never settling for “good enough.” Every day, I’m looking for new ways to create a safer, more enriching, and more enjoyable experience for both dogs and their families.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my two children and, of course, with my puppy, Penny. You’ll often find her by my side at Central Bark, where she’s quickly becoming part of the family and a favorite among both our team and our guests. I’m also fortunate to own Central Bark alongside my father, Phil Clark Sr. Working together has been a rewarding experience, and I’m grateful to build this business with someone who shares my commitment to serving our community.
Owning Central Bark has been one of the most challenging—and also one of the most rewarding—experiences of my life as a small business owner. I’m incredibly grateful for the trust our customers place in us each day, and I remain committed to learning, growing, and continually improving so Central Bark is a place where dogs love to visit, families feel confident leaving their best friend, and our team is proud of the care we provide.

Frequently Asked Questions
All dogs are different, and like humans, your dog deserves grooming customized to their size, breed, and level of attention. For this reason, prices may vary by service and location.
Once you have enrolled, we will need a copy of your dog’s vaccination records, which you can upload to your online account or bring with you on your scheduled first day. We also ask that your dog comes in on a regular 6-foot flat leash (no retractable or flexi-leads in the lobby) and a quick-release collar. Not sure what a quick-release collar is? No problem! We’ll be happy to show you on your first day. If your dog usually wears a harness while walking, you’re welcome to bring that as well.
If your dog typically eats a midday meal, you can bring it in an airtight container clearly labeled with your dog’s first and last names.
An essential characteristic of a dog groomer is someone who makes you and your dog feel safe and comfortable.
Other things to look for:
- Certifications – Groomers don’t need a license or certification to work. Still, these accreditations are often signs that the groomer has the necessary training and experience to care for your pup.
- Experience with different breeds – Look for a groomer with experience with a variety of breeds and coats and the standard haircut for your dog’s breed.
- Preparedness – A groomer should work with dogs of all ages and levels of experience with grooming. They should aim to help each dog feel as comfortable as possible with the grooming process. Suppose the dog or puppy becomes anxious or uncomfortable. In that case, the groomer should be able to suggest a plan for increasing their comfort over time with the use of a positive reward-based approach.

Rest periods can be paired with fun and interactive food toys (like a frozen peanut butter Kong) to create a rest period enrichment activity for your dog.
Not only are rest period enrichments fun and mentally stimulating for your dog, but they also help build positive associations and crating skills. Hence, dogs are calmer, quieter, and more relaxed. For dogs, being comfortable in a crate is a life skill that is incredibly useful for them and their owners.
Did you know? Scientific studies have shown that licking and chewing behaviors (especially those that involve food rewards!) are self-soothing, decrease heart and respiratory rates, and even release dopamine in a dog’s brain.
