About Central Bark Henrietta

Phil Clark and family are the proud new owners of Central Bark Henrietta, conveniently located off Jefferson Road near the post office, just 3 miles west of the Schottland YMCA.

After years of working in IT Services sales for one of the largest software providers in the world, Phil was looking for a way to give back to the local community with his career. Thinking back on his passions, he realized he would love to have a job where caring for dogs was central to what he did. Phil Sr., the retired CEO of a large, local architecture and engineering firm, and Phil Jr. have always dreamed about ways to own and operate a family business together.  Combining a passion for dogs and business, the Clark family – Phil Jr, Lindsay, Phil Sr, and Vendy, – decided to take a leap and open a business that centers their love of our best pup friends. Bringing together their love of dogs and their love of family, the Clark Family looks forward to exceeding your and your pet’s expectations for dog care!

At Central Bark Henrietta, pets are family, and family deserves personalized pet care and exceptional customer service. We look forward to the opportunity to care for your pets as they would be cared for at home!

“We welcome you to join our Central Bark family.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you crate train a dog?

For dogs, being comfortable in a crate is a life skill that is incredibly useful for them and their owners. If you have ever traveled with your dog or had the unfortunate experience of an overnight stay at the vet, knowing your dog is comfortable in a crate is immeasurably comforting.

Crate training can take just days or a few months, based on your dog’s age, temperament, and past experiences with crates. The two keys to successful crate training are to keep the experience positive and go slowly.

When your puppy is not in their crate, keep the door open and reward them every time they choose to enter, even if you didn’t ask them to enter it. When crating your puppy, give them a safe enrichment item (like a stuffed Kong) that will keep them busy and allow them to self-soothe while confined. Remember that crate training should take place in a series of small, slow steps that will help your puppy become more comfortable.

Central Bark® offers everything you need to help you care for your new puppy. Our Enrichment Day Care gives puppies all the socialization, exercise, mental stimulation, and rest they need for a lifetime of happiness with you and your family. We also offer expert training and classes so you and your puppy can learn and bond together.

What should I look for in a dog groomer?

An essential characteristic of a dog groomer is someone who makes you and your dog feel safe and comfortable.

Other things to look for:

  • Certifications – Groomers don’t need a license or certification to work. Still, these accreditations are often signs that the groomer has the necessary training and experience to care for your pup.
  • Experience with different breeds – Look for a groomer with experience with a variety of breeds and coats and the standard haircut for your dog’s breed.
  • Preparedness – A groomer should work with dogs of all ages and levels of experience with grooming. They should aim to help each dog feel as comfortable as possible with the grooming process. Suppose the dog or puppy becomes anxious or uncomfortable. In that case, the groomer should be able to suggest a plan for increasing their comfort over time with the use of a positive reward-based approach.

Can I stay with my dog at the groomers?

You do not need to stay with your dog during their grooming appointment. Our expert groomers always aim to help your dog feel as calm and relaxed as possible during their bathing and grooming experience. If your pup is feeling a little unsure, ask our training team about ways to enrich their experience and help create positive associations by using positive reward-based training methods.
