HAPPY NEW YEAR! PRESENTING OUR JANUARY 2013 DOG OF THE MONTH, MYRO! One of the most popular dogs in the United States according to AKC® Registration Statistics is the Shih Tzu. Myro is a very special one. Myro is currently staying with his “foster Mom”, Rachel and her family. They are generous, caring and most certainly a family who truly loves dogs. Why is Myro in a foster home? His real father is in the Military and has been deployed to Afghanistan. He has been in the Air Force for nine years. His home base is Ft. Mead and is from the Pittsburgh area. Myro will be in his temporary home until mid-April. Myro was “found” by Rachel through the program, Dogs on Deployment. Military members, nation-wide, confront a multitude of problems during their career. The last problem they want to worry about is what to do with their beloved family pet when it’s time for them to deploy. Many service members have limited, to no options for their pets when they go overseas and many have relinquished their pets to shelters when they have nowhere else to go. Dogs On Deployment is a 501(c)(3) national non-profit service, which provides a central online database where service members can search for individuals or families who are willing to welcome a Dog On Deployment into their home for the length of the owner’s deployment. This program promotes responsible pet-ownership for the military-pet community by introducing them to families who are willing to board pets while they are away. Myro’s Dad knows Myro enjoys being at Central Bark and he enjoys seeing the pictures of Mayo playing here. Myro and all Shih Tzus are a compact and solid dog. This portable pooch has a distinctively arrogant carriage with his head well up and tail curved over the back. All colors of Shih Tzu are allowed. we think Myro’ grey and white is one of the prettiest! They possess a long, flowing double coat, its most distinctive feature. The word Shih Tzu means "lion" and although this breed is sweet and playful, he is not afraid to stand up for himself! YES! This does describe our Myro! He loves to play with the big dogs, but will definitely show the little ones how to play, run and also jump! Myro does love activities but, that does not mean the he does not know how to snuggle. When Myro needs a rest, he runs to his favorite handler, Maygan, where he is scooped up, cuddles close and then is off to play some more. We are proud to have Myro as a Central Bark dog, and we are proud of his “foster Mom” who has done this very kind and generous thing, taking wonderful care of a dog that needs a temporary home. Congratulations to Myro, our January Dog of the Month and to both of his families!
Congrats, Myro!
