Congrats, Louis and Kramer!

Our August DOGS of the Month will “double your pleasure, double your fun…” because we have two little “pups” for you to meet.

Meet Louis and Kramer, the smallest members of their play group. Kramer appears to be part Chihuahua and Louis looks like a tiny Cairn Terrier and weighs less than five pounds. These two rescues may be small, but it seems that the smaller the dog, the bigger their personality. As you can see, they are both mixes of other dogs, but even though they are not related, they are both so very much alike. Both are friendly, playful, sweet and cuddly…and both are very bossy! Just look at Kramer giving you a sly little wink – and Louis, the cutest little dog ever!

Kramer, with some Chihuahua genes, has inherited that breeds’ sassy, “take charge” attitude. Chihuahuas have terrier-like qualities; they are agile, hardy, protective, loyal and spirited. Kramer exhibits these traits, and more. He is very loud when he runs and plays. Most Chihuahuas require little exercise. Kramer is wildly high energy, plays till he drops, and never rests. Chihuahuas are good city dogs, but can be sensitive to cold temperatures. Smooth-coated Chihuahuas need very little grooming due to their short hair.

Kramer’s “mom,” Traci is a huge Cavs fan. Their season made Traci very happy, but Kramer hates sports. Traci loves sports, parties, and entertaining and Kramer sulks and leaves the room. Too much cheering and too much action for him!

Now we turn to Louis. This boy is in a class all by himself. Weighing less than five pounds, he most certainly has the “big dog” attitude. Still, he loves to snuggle and be held. Look at that face…you HAVE to pick him up. He is also delusional since he plays like crazy and has no idea that he is a small dog. Since he looks like a miniature Cairn terrier, he is the “best little pal in the world.” (A quote from the British Cairn Terrier Club). A Cairn is study and will frolic on the lawn with the kids, but will be equally happy cuddling with Grandma on the couch. They may be small, but they are not fancy, delicate lap dogs! They do best with lots of close contact with their family, and should be trained with positive reinforcement and a firm but loving touch. ( LOUIS!)

Traci is very devoted to her “boys” and gives them the love and care beyond what is expected. These are two very happy rescued dogs, thanks to Traci.

So, if you see Traci with her boys, congratulate her and congratulate Kramer and Louis, our August Dogs of the Month!
