Congrats, Harlow!

APRIL 2015 DOG OF THE MONTH

In the 1930’s, the most famous Blonde Bombshell was Jean Harlow, a movie star. Most of us are too young to have even heard of her. But, she was a beauty. April’s Dog of the Month is also a beauty named Harlow, but she has a lot more going for her!

Harlow is a German Shepherd. Her first day at Central Bark was August 23, 2014. She came to us with her “foster” mom, Audrey. Audrey and Matt also have a dog named Tank (see February 2015 Dog of the Month). Her “real” Mom, Kathryn (Katie) is a soldier, who was deployed to Afghanistan. Harlow was placed with Audrey and Matt though Dogs on Deployment. Their mission: Our mission is to give military members peace of mind concerning their pets during their service commitments by providing them with the ability to find people and resources able to help them. Do you remember Myro, our Jan 2013 DOM? He was also a Dog on Deployment.

Harlow and Tank’s first “Meet and Greet” was here at Central Bark. It took about a millisecond before Harlow tilted her head, Tank let out a low “woof” and they began to play. Tank is very happy to have a “little sister” and Harlow is very happy to temporarily fill that role.

Harlow is a real “Tom Boy.” She plays hard, eats with gusto, and sleeps soundly, storing up her energy for the next play session. Audrey and Matt have brought Harlow to training classes here at Central Bark. This is truly a generous and kind thing to do for a dog that will not be with you forever. As a training team, Harlow, true to her breed, learned quickly and loves to work for her “foster parents.” Matt successfully handled Harlow during test night where she earned her American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Title

The German Shepherd is hailed as the world’s leading police, guard, and military dog. The German Shepherd is consistently one of the United States most popular breeds, according to AKC® Registration Statistics. This breed is also a loving family companion and show competitor. The breed is approachable, direct and fearless, with a strong, muscular body. The breed appears in many colors, but is most commonly black and tan. Harlow is black and tan, but mostly black.

So, our beautiful Harlow should be congratulated on her title as April Dog of the Month, and her foster parents, Audrey and Matt, should also be congratulated for taking part in Dogs on Deployment and helping our military members who sometimes have to leave their beloved companions behind as they serve our country.
