OUR JULY DOG OF THE MONTH JUST SPARKLES! It is almost the 4th of July. What do we think of as this holiday approaches? Fireworks, baseball, picnics, and sparklers! Sparklers? Why, it isn’t the 4th of July without them. Coincidentally, the definitions for SPARKLER closely resemble our July Dog of the Month. Sparkler is a noun and here are three definitions for the word: 1. A person or thing that sparkles 2. A firework that emits little sparks 3. A sparkling gem, especially a diamond Well, our July Dog of the Month is CALLIE, a sparkling, beautiful German Shepherd. She fits all the definitions for a sparkler! The German Shepherd Dog (GSD, the official AKC name) is well known as the world’s leading police, guard, and military dog. That being said, the breed is also a loving family companion that is approachable, friendly, affectionate, strong, fearless, and loyal. Callie certainly is all this and more! She has been our friend ever since she was a puppy here. She is a graduate of our S.T.A.R. Puppy Class. Callie even has her medal to prove it. Friendly? Callie willingly meets and greets everyone in our lobby and everyone on her path to her day care friends. She may look like a warrior, but she is faithful, sweet, and full of life. Callie’s “Dad” adores her and the feeling is mutual. He claims she is such a “bugger!” He is a doting parent and Callie knows it! A good, well-trained German Shepherd is never nervous and is always eager and alert, but also, is never hostile or aggressive. This description also fits Callie to a “T.” She loves to play with everyone. She certainly is not a “breed snob.” It just so happens that she is particularly fond of Emmy, Sasha, Harley D and Stark…and they just happen to all be German Shepherds, too! When you see Mike and Callie, be sure to congratulate them on having that sparkling July Dog of the Month title. They deserve your kudos!
