A ‘YORKIE’ IS THE MARCH DOG OF THE MONTH! Meet Annie, a Yorkshire Terrier, who is our March Dog of the Month. Dogs don’t get much cuter than this. Named for the English city from which they originally hail, Yorkshire Terriers were used in the nineteenth century to catch rats in clothing mills. Surprisingly, in its beginnings, the Yorkie belonged to the working class, especially the weavers; in fact, teasing comments were often made about how the dogs’ fine, silky coats were the ultimate product of the looms. Eventually, the breed left the workforce and became a companion animal to families of European high society. Today, anyone can be the proud “parent” of a Yorkie. Though members of the Toy Group, they are terriers by nature and are brave, determined, investigative and energetic. They have long, luxurious blue and tan coats. This pooch is one of the most popular breeds according the AKC®. Yorkshire Terriers offer big personalities in a small package and this is certainly true of our Annie, and her mom, Darlene. Darlene named Annie after her own mother. Annie is a fun-loving, happy and confident little girl. She possesses the same personality traits as Darlene! While Annie does appreciate fun time, she is very serious about her “school work.” Annie is a graduate of some Central bark classes and always tries to look and do her best. Darlene always wears the latest in fashion and loves trying new and trendy hairstyles and colors. This has rubbed off on Annie. Annie also likes to mix it up a bit when she is being groomed here at Central Bark. Yorkies have a long coat that requires regular brushing. Yorkies are easily adaptable to all surroundings, travel well and make suitable pets for many homes. Because of their small size, they require limited exercise. Well, most of them require little exercise, but not our Annie! She is so highly energetic that she will run, skip, dance, and play all day. (Again, probably just like her mom.) While a Yorkie doesn’t require much exercise, they are a loving and affectionate breed and require lots of “face time” and interaction with people. We know Annie gets that from Darlene! Smile when you see Annie and Darlene and congratulate them on being charming, fun, interesting, AND on Annie being selected as the March Dog of the Month.
Congrats, Annie!
