Hi, we’re Mike and Beth Carter, proud owners of Central Bark Aurora-Fox Valley, the best dog day care and boarding facility in the Aurora-Naperville area! We’ve lived in Naperville since 2000, raising our three kids (who are now grown) and filling our home with dogs every step of the way. Today, our family includes Lily, a lab-hound mix with a nose that gets her into trouble, and Ellie, our sweet but goofy white boxer.

Dogs have always been at the heart of our lives, and Central Bark is a dream come true for us. After decades in careers that kept us busy but left us longing for something more meaningful, we decided it was time to build a new chapter together. We wanted to do something joyful, community-focused, and—most importantly—dog-centered. Central Bark is the perfect fit, with its Midwest roots, holistic Whole Dog Care philosophy, and genuine “family” feel.

Mike brings strong business skills to our operations, and he’s a lifelong “dog whisperer”—the guy the neighborhood pups can’t resist. Meanwhile, Beth’s marketing experience is helping us spread the word about Central Bark throughout Aurora and Naperville. Together, we’re excited to create a safe, happy place for amazing day care for dogs, overnight boarding, pet grooming, and professional, positive training services. As long-time Naperville residents, we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this trusted local dog care option to the western suburbs.

Very impressed with our first visit to Central Bark Aurora Fox Valley !! Mike, the owner, was very professional and nice to work with. The Groomer (I didn’t get her name) did a great job grooming my big Golden Doodle, Harley !! He was dropped off at 9 AM and picked up at noon. Perfect for my dog who is not thrilled with going to the groomer. The little picture of Harley was an added bonus! Thank you you , you have yourself a new customer !!

We know that he is in good hands whether its when he’s boarded or just for a grooming. They are so welcoming and professional and really get to know your dog and what is best for him. We brought our puppy Milo to the puppy hour they offer on Wednesdays and he fell in love with this place. We signed Milo up for training with Francesca and could not be happier with her training skills. She has a genuine love and understanding for dogs and is awesome at what she does. My wife and I both learned a lot from her and are so happy with what she taught us and our puppy Milo. This place is absolutely spotless, has everything you could imagine, and Mike along with his team couldn’t be more welcoming to the people and dogs that visit this facility. How can I be sure that the play space is clean, odor & disease-free, comfortable and safe for the stated capacity of the center?

Central Bark® is licensed and inspected by the Health Department regularly. We also clean and disinfect nightly, regardless of how many dogs have visited.

How Does Central Bark Handle Feeding for My Dog During the Day?

We are happy to accommodate your dog’s feeding schedule as part of their “Rest Period Enrichments.” Simply bring their food in pre-portioned containers with clear instructions. Our trained staff will ensure your dog receives their meal in a private, quiet space. We are also experienced in handling a variety of specific needs, including day care for dogs with allergies and medication administration, though additional fees may apply.

How does Central Bark mentally stimulate a dog?

At Central Bark®, our goal is to provide a balanced day of play, learning, rest, and love. Learning and mental exercise can happen in various ways, including training activities, brain games, scent work, and more. Our playgroups offer several hours of active playtime paired with learning opportunities during Group Play Skills. This way, dogs have plenty of time to socialize and get their energy out, while also exercising their minds through learning.

During one of your dog’s rest periods throughout the day, they are offered a rest period enrichment activity to stimulate their mind while encouraging healthy rest. These licking and chewing activities involve food rewards, such as frozen peanut butter KONG®. These activities engage their minds while helping foster quality rest.

Did you know? Scientific studies have shown that licking and chewing behaviors (especially those that involve food rewards!) are self-soothing, decrease heart and respiratory rates, and even release dopamine in a dog’s brain.

Training Tutor sessions stimulate the dog’s minds and bodies and help them learn important skills, behaviors, and tricks.

One-on-One Enrichment sessions give the extra attention dogs love and the freedom to use their senses and safely explore their instincts through interactive toys, puzzles, and games.
