This is Spelunker. The year was 2007, the month, a warm mid-July day; Spelunker started her 1st day of day care. You wouldn’t believe this, but Spelunker wasn’t as adventurous when it came to exploring this environment and meeting her new friends as her name suggests. Slowly, but surely, however, Spelunker became worthy of her name.
Intrigued by the pool, Spelunker decided to dip her toes in, where she immediately felt right at home. Enter the toys; these became some of her best friends. Once she was comfortable with these staple items, she decided that she was going to explore every aspect of day care-and that included people and other dogs. And boy, are we glad she did! While she can still be cautious around new dogs and people, Spelunker is not the same dog she was 6 years ago.
Day care has given her the confidence to explore and acclimate herself to new situations and we are so excited to have seen her come out of her shell over the past 4 years. We do however, wish she would not have been so curious and confident with skunks! You’d think after getting sprayed multiple times she would have learned her lesson but, well, not yet! Oh Spelunker, will you learn?!
