Congrats, Magoo!

May’s Dog of the Month honors go to Magoo, a handsome 7-year-old white Boxer. Adopted at about 2-years-old, charming and well-mannered guy has made his mark at Downtown and is pretty popular around here. For the past 5 years he’s been visiting us every Wednesday, pulling his parents in the door bright and early, ready to start his day without even a glance back. Over the years some of his friends have come and gone but there are always the tried and true, the friends he’s had since the beginning; JJ, Shirley, Sydney and Coco. Similar in play style, they make the most out of their day by chasing and wrestling with each other until they are too tired to run any more. He even enjoys a little sun bathing on occasion. During that down time you can find him busily looking for a toy to call his own. A toy coinsurer of sorts, he prefers our Goughnuts, doughnut-shaped rubber toys that bounce and roll and can withstand even the strongest chewers. If he must, he will make do with a Kong or ball, but he really gets excited when he spies his favorites. Magoo even does a little happy dance in anticipation! More often than not he’s usually the quickest to “capture” the Goughnut after it is sent rolling down the playgroup. We just haven’t figured out how to get him to bring it back to us so we can do it all over again 😉 Once Magoo has exhausted these avenues, it’s time for some handler one-on-one. He does love when the focus is all on him! As you tell, Magoo enjoys the same things in life that most dogs do…and why wouldn’t he? Because he’s deaf? That’s right, you heard me, Magoo cannot hear! More proof that “special needs dogs” are no different than any other dogs and they can make wonderful companions. Next time you’re thinking about adding a new furry member to your family don’t overlook an older animal or one that may not be able to hear! They need homes too and can give you just as much love and years of laughter as any “normal” dog can. Way to go Magoo-we love you just the way you are!
