Teak from Central Bark Doggy Day Care of Tampa, FL selected as January’s Top Dog

We asked the owner of Teak a few questions and here is what they had to say.

Q: What was your first reaction when you heard that McGee won Top Dog?
A: Both surprised and thrilled. Teak has never been an "easy" dog because he has a boisterou, and sometimes bossy personality. But over the years as he matured, he has become a loving part of our family. I’m so glad his friends at Central Bark can see that about him, too.

Q: Why is McGee is special to you?
A: He embodies unconditional love and shows it with a "smile" and a tail wag that just doesn’t quit. He is especially devoted to me and, in fact, sees watching after me as his "job". He should have been named "Shadow"!

Q: What is the most memorable moment with McGee?
A: Teak came to me on Christmas Day, 1999, as a gift following the death of my mother. At that time I was very sad and also very busy with a time-consuming job. When I’d leave the house, I’d leave the back door open in case he needed to go out. One day at work I got a call from my neighbor. Teak had been spotted out exploring the neighborhood. The mowing crew had forgotten to latch the back yard gate. I rushed home and found Teak in the care of a neighbor three streets away. Whew! It was then that I learned about The Dog Zone which is now Central Bark, Tampa. And, that was 10 years ago. He’s been part of the pack at Central Bark ever since.

Q: What you would like to say to all your fans out there?
A: When my friends learn that Teak is being recognized as DOM, they will all be very happy for us. My friends know how much joy Teak has brought to my life and they know what an energetic dog he has been. To see the growth and change in Teak over the years has been just remarkable. I credit the love and support he has been given at Central Bark for his transformationfrom a wild-child to a sweetheart.

Fun Stuff
Teak is a registered Black Labrador Retriever. He weighs 90 pounds, is 24" tall from shoulder to paw; he is 11 years old; he dislikes visits to the Vet, having his ears cleaned, the vacuum cleaner when it runs and strangers coming to the front door; he likes playing ball, swimming, carrying toys around in his mouth, having his tummy rubbed and riding in the front seat of the car; his favorite toy is his red Kong especially when there is an apple slice inside; his favorite food for play is goldfish crackers. He is also a fan of fresh fruits and vegetables, and of course, dog biscuits.

I have told many people that The Dog Zone/Central Bark saved Teak’s life. In his youth I’d take him to daycare to give myself a break from doing my best to keep up with him every day. Now he goes to daycare to socialize and play with his friends. Needlessto say, I am very fond of my dog and the community at Central Bark who have always taken great care of him. Thanks for this opportunity to express my gratitude to you.
