Our dogs are our best friends, and we want to make sure they’re happy and healthy. But sometimes it’s hard to do everything they need. That’s why people trust Central Bark.
At Central Bark Poughkeepsie, dogs get lots of love and care in a safe place. We have a special way of taking care of dogs called Whole Dog Care. It’s all about making sure your dog is healthy and happy their whole life.
We have fun programs like Enrichment Dog Day Care, plus other services like boarding, grooming, and training. Our goal is to help you and your dog have the best life together.
We treat dogs like they’re part of our family because we know they are. We’re dog parents too, so we understand how important dogs are. That’s why we take care of each dog like they’re our own.
Central Bark’s Enrichment Dog Day Care offers more than playtime — it nurtures your dog’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. With small playgroups based on size, temperament, and playstyle, we create a safe, structured environment where dogs build confidence, learn good manners, and enjoy healthy socialization. Our enrichment activities, routine schedules, and trained enrichment specialists provide positive interaction, exercise, and rest so your dog goes home happy, tired, and fulfilled.
Central Bark’s dog grooming salon and spa keeps your pup looking and feeling their best with personalized care. Our experienced groomers use positive handling techniques and premium products tailored to your dog’s breed, size, and comfort needs. From baths and blowouts to nail trims, teeth brushing, deshedding, and specialty add-ons, we strive to create a stress-free, comfortable grooming experience. Add a spa day to your dog day care or boarding for a fresh, clean pup at pick up.
Central Bark dog boarding provides a safe, cozy home-away-from-home where your pup can rest comfortably while you’re away. Our team offers attentive, individualized care with plenty of enrichment, affection, and routine to help your dog feel secure. Each guest enjoys a clean, comfortable sleeping space, regular potty breaks, and caring supervision from people who know dogs well. Relax knowing your dog is safe, comfortable, and cared for like one of our own.
Central Bark’s dog training helps to build confidence, manners, and lifelong skills using force-free, positive reinforcement methods. Our dog trainers offer classes for puppies and adults, from basic obedience to more advanced skills. Training can also be integrated into our dog day care for active learning, socialization, and mental enrichment. With individualized sessions and options during day care, pups learn through play, enrichment, and structure. The result? A calmer, happier dog with better habits at home.
Central Bark’s Free Puppy Hour starts your puppy’s socialization the right way. This safe, supervised play session helps puppies build confidence, social skills, and healthy play habits during their most important developmental stage (8-16 weeks). Guided by trained enrichment specialists, puppies explore new sights, sounds, and friends while burning energy and learning healthy habits. Pet parents also get expert training tips and support. It’s a fun, stress-free way to nurture a well-rounded, confident puppy — at no cost.

Update: Molly was boarded for a few days. We received daily videos and messages. My puppy girl was clearly in good hands. She looked like she was having a wonderful time. I highly recommend Central Bark for day and overnight stays. They are the best. Every single staff person clearly loves dogs and it shows in their care. We picked olly up today and she looks just as she should, happy and healthy.
DAY 5, week three. our lab hound gets super excited when he knows he’s getting in the car but even more so as he gets closer to Central Bark. A good sign. He wants to jump right out and start sniffing/A.k.a. reading the morning Newspaper
They tell me he’s a bit shy, which is OK. But he seems to be enjoying himself and having more engagement than I can provide in the winter at home.
The parking lot is enormous so there’s very little risk of getting too close to the other dogs as they are scurrying around on their way into the building.
We are able to adjust accordingly, so William doesn’t get too hyper-social too soon.
Arriving on the early side works for us because the early morning 6:30-6:45 am seems a little bit more calm as we hand him off to the enrichment team.
NO-pack. Just GO:
Unlike sending your kid to kindergarten, you don’t have to pack a lunch or toys, or anything else for that matter.
Everything your dog will need is provided for the day.
BOARDING/overnight: It’s going so well that we are considering boarding him one night while I’m out of town.
This would ordinarily be nerve-racking because he is a rescue and spent too much time in a kennel environment at the rescue shelter. But he seems comfortable here, so I’m strongly considering it.
STAFFING: Denise, the owner is absolutely wonderful. And she seems to have surrounded herself with a really lovely team.
It’s still early for me to point out one particular person so I’ll check back in with you all. Suffice it to say that so far, so good.
I’ve been bringing my Aussie Jojo here for a year, and I can’t recommend them enough! They always book us in quickly, they’re responsive, and I get consistent updates and follow-ups while he is staying overnight. The grooming is fantastic—Heather always has Jojo looking and feeling great, with perfect nails and a happy demeanor. Plus, the staff is wonderful. special shoutout to the front desk team and the owner, Denise, for making every visit a breeze!
Very happy with all services people are very friendly helpful my pup loves it. Have used boarding ,grooming and weekly day care so glad we have access to such a great place
Whether you’re crate training, leash walking, or potty training your pup, consistency is key. It’s crucial to establish a routine, practice positive reinforcement, supervise your puppy (especially when potty training), and avoid punishing your puppy when mistakes happen.

How are staff trained and what behavior management tools do they use in a playgroup?
Our staff is trained in dog body language and positive playgroup management techniques so they can respond proactively to help avoid issues between dogs. These tools include praise, treats, and work on important Group Play Skills daily like name recall, group sits, and going calmly in and out of doorways and gates. If a dog ever becomes overstimulated during play (just like kids do on the playground sometimes) we use these practiced skills to help redirect dogs into more desired behaviors (like coming to us and offering a sit for a treat) which gives the dog a chance to reset and calm down. When needed, we also utilize play breaks (a short rest in an individual crate) or in-group leash walks if a dog needs a little more help to bring their energy levels back down.
