Portia Scott, owner of Central Bark Doggy Day Care Philadelphia, was among the seventeenth cohort of 30 graduates who recently completed the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses-Greater Philadelphia program. The program is open to business owners from across the Greater Philadelphia region.

The business leaders have spent 14 weeks – roughly 100 class hours – at the Community College of Philadelphia studying a business and management curriculum designed by Babson College and delivered by Community College of Philadelphia faculty. The curriculum covered accounting, human resources, negotiation and marketing, among other topics. The program also included one-on-one business advising, accounting workshops and advice from Goldman Sachs professionals.

Portia states, “Prior to graduating from 10,000 Small Businesses, I nurtured and enhanced the Central Bark brand within the community. So, while my business is successful, the program shifted my perspective by offering a multitude of tools to help me navigate, move with more confidence, and analyze new opportunities – all to enhance The Central Bark Doggy Day Care presence beyond where we are today.”

Portia goes onto to say that a major take away from the program was what she learned from an HR perspective regarding ways to create a more harmonious relationship with employees in order to enhance business – as employees are the cornerstone of the business.
