How Much Does
Cat and Dog Insurance Cost?
Certain plans commence at just $1 per day. Embrace Pet Insurance creates customized pet insurance plans, and the cost depends on a few key factors:
- Animal Type: Understand that different species of animals have unique healthcare needs, resulting in varying insurance costs. Whether you have dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, or other exotic pets, the price of insurance can differ due to the diverse medical treatments and potential health risks associated with each type of animal.
- Pet Gender: Surprisingly, your pet’s gender can influence insurance expenses. Certain breeds may have specific health concerns more commonly associated with males or females, which could affect pricing. If you have a pet capable of reproduction, gender might also play a role due to potential pregnancy-related costs.
- Age: The age of your pet is a crucial factor in determining insurance costs. Younger pets typically have lower premiums since they’re less likely to have pre-existing conditions or age-related health issues. As pets age, insurance costs tend to increase due to the higher likelihood of health problems.
- Breed: Keep in mind that different breeds come with varying genetic predispositions to certain health conditions. Purebred pets might have higher insurance costs due to potential hereditary health concerns. Larger breeds may also have higher premiums because they’re prone to specific musculoskeletal issues.
- Geographic Location: Where you live can impact the cost of pet insurance. Veterinary care expenses can vary significantly based on location. Urban areas may have higher costs due to increased demand and operating expenses, while rural areas might offer more affordable options.

Just a Call Away
While taking care of your pet can be a full-time job, managing your pet insurance doesn’t have to be.
When Does My Pet Insurance
All good things come to those who wait. Before your pet can be enrolled, there is a short waiting period when coverage is restricted. The waiting period is 2 days for accidents, 14 days for illness, and 6 months for orthopedic conditions. For pet insurance coverage to start, each pet you are insuring must have visited a vet within the past 12 months. If you have a new pet or your pet hasn’t seen a vet in the last 12 months, you can take your pet in during the waiting period without any loss of coverage.
