FREE Puppy Hour!
in Charlotte-Matthews

Start your pup on the right paw!

At Central Bark, our mission is to nurture and enrich dogs’ lives – and what better way than through puppy socialization?! Positive experiences with new dogs, humans, and environments are a critical part of a puppy’s healthy social development.

These early experiences help your dog develop comfort and confidence and positively affect their lifelong emotional development, building a strong foundation for a healthy, happy, and socially appropriate dog.

Puppy Hour is a FREE supervised play and social hour for puppies over 12 weeks of age held every first and third Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to noon. We invite you and your puppy to attend as many sessions as you would like until your pup reaches the age limit.

Benefits

Enrolling your puppy in our Charlotte-Matthews puppy socialization program offers numerous advantages for their development and well-being. Here’s what your furry companion can gain:

  • Enhanced Comfort and Confidence: Introducing your dog to new environments cultivates a sense of assurance when encountering the unfamiliar, ultimately reducing anxiety.
  • Positive Emotional Growth: Early socialization contributes to your dog’s emotional well-being, establishing favorable associations with fellow dogs, humans, and stimuli.
  • Energy Release: Our program provides a secure arena for puppies to expend their boundless energy through play and exploration.
  • Build Social Skills: Participation in a puppy group facilitates the acquisition of essential social skills such as sharing, taking turns, and establishing boundaries.
  • Robust Foundation: Our puppy program lays a sturdy groundwork for your dog’s forthcoming well-being. It ensures their growth into a robust, cheerful, and socially adept canine.

In Our Puppy Program, Your Pup Will:

  • Enjoy Off-Leash Playtime: Interact with other vaccinated puppies of similar age during off-leash play sessions.
  • Receive Experienced Supervision: Be carefully supervised by experienced caregivers, ensuring safe and appropriate play.
  • Socialize and Explore: Meet new dogs, people, toys, places, and experiences to foster socialization and adaptability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are One-on-One Enrichment sessions?

Our One-on-One Enrichment sessions give your dog the freedom to safely explore their senses with an Enrichment Specialist. They’ll get the personal attention they love, supplemented with interactive toys, puzzles, and games that exercise their bodies and minds. They can also level up their skills with fitness training and agility exercises if they’re ready for more.

Did you know? 15 minutes of mental activity is equal to 30 minutes of physical exercise!

How do you crate train a dog?

For dogs, being comfortable in a crate is a life skill that is incredibly useful for them and their owners. If you have ever traveled with your dog or had the unfortunate experience of an overnight stay at the vet, knowing your dog is comfortable in a crate is immeasurably comforting.

Crate training can take just days or a few months, based on your dog’s age, temperament, and past experiences with crates. The two keys to successful crate training are to keep the experience positive and go slowly.

When your puppy is not in their crate, keep the door open and reward them every time they choose to enter, even if you didn’t ask them to enter it. When crating your puppy, give them a safe enrichment item (like a stuffed Kong) that will keep them busy and allow them to self-soothe while confined. Remember that crate training should take place in a series of small, slow steps that will help your puppy become more comfortable.

Central Bark® offers everything you need to help you care for your new puppy. Our Enrichment Day Care gives puppies all the socialization, exercise, mental stimulation, and rest they need for a lifetime of happiness with you and your family. We also offer expert training and classes so you and your puppy can learn and bond together.

How do dogs wind down from the flurry of activity and avoid potential conflicts?

Dogs nap quietly in their individual crates in the Nap Room, complete with classical music and aromatherapy.

What is positive reward-based dog training?

Positive reward-based techniques help puppies and dogs develop essential life skills and behaviors that will enrich their lives at home and day care. These methods set dogs up to succeed and reward them for performing desired behaviors. Rewards are tailored to the dog’s preferences and can include food treats, time to play with a favorite toy, or verbal praise.

After decades of experience using reward-based training, we know it’s the most humane and effective way of training dogs and addressing unwanted behaviors. It’s the best way to build a loving, trusting bond that enhances your relationship between you and your dog for a lifetime of happiness together.

At Central Bark®, our focus on positive reinforcement has never wavered. We continuously update our skills and policies to stay at the forefront of new advances in behavioral science and positive reinforcement techniques.
